Unsung heroes’ tribute to fallen US colleagues

THE unsung heroes of Cork Fire Brigade proved their worth recently during the inferno at the Sunbeam plant in Blackpool.

We tend to take their vital work so much for granted.

I wonder if people know of another great thing that they did for their fellow firemen and the people of New York. After 9/11 they composed a haunting piece of music in honour of the 343 firemen who died that day.

The song tells the story through the voices of two boys from Scoil Barra Naofa, Monkstown, supported by students of the music department at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, Cork.

Readers may like to hear the song at www.corkcity.ie/firebrigade.

This is a moving piece of music and I tip my hat to the Cork city firemen. I am very proud of them.
