Give them a break

I REFER to the report entitled “Ahern a bad example to youth, says ASTI chief” (Irish Examiner, September 12), in which Pat Cahill called Bertie Ahern “laddish”.

We keep hearing that teenagers are not interested in politics and young people do not vote. But now we hear that poor Bertie is setting a bad example because he is “fond of the birds and the beer” and opens pubs. Are we forgetting he is a grown man over 18?

While I do not condone teenage drinking, I find it amusing that our Bertie is encouraging the youth of the nation to drink. I feel that our young people, and Bertie, need to be given a break.
