Poverty report - Out of sight, out of mind for the poor

MAPPING Poverty, the report issued by the Combat Poverty Agency, was commissioned by the Economic and Social Research Institute to investigate the geographic distribution of poverty in this country.

The findings show significant variations of poverty between different regions and even neighbourhoods.

The report found the greatest risk of poverty in rural border areas of Donegal, Leitrim and Mayo, where the highest percentage of elderly residents are to be found, along with the lowest levels of educational achievement and the highest levels of economic dependency.
