US army whistleblower lifts lid on the real beneficiaries of Iraq conflict

THE first excuse given by the British and US governments for the disastrous invasion of Iraq was that Iraq had horrendous weapons, including chemical and nuclear devices.

But the only chemical weapon used was white phosphorous fired into the city of Fallujah by US forces, and the only nuclear-related ones were depleted uranium munitions used widely by invasion forces.

The next excuse was that Saddam Hussein was harbouring al-Qaida in Iraq. In fact Saddam, a secularist, repressed Islamic fundamentalists. Now, three years after the invasion, Iraq is full of al-Qaida-linked insurgents, both foreign and homegrown.
