Drivers urged to act on toll charges
The average person trying to get to work is being held to ransom because there is no real alternative route.
I propose that people object to this unfair tax on income already subject to income tax. Look at the numbers of people who protested against bin charges, but the toll cost to the working person is far greater.
Many are not even aware that for each toll the Government takes 21% VAT (again on money on which tax has already been paid). It is receiving more money from the toll bridge than was ever anticipated because of the ever increasing numbers of cars forced to use this route.
One wonders what our motor tax goes towards, when the toll bridge currently costs a motorist getting to work €780 per annum.
From January 1 this will rise to €936, which is more than most people’s car tax and insurance combined. I would like to hear other readers’ views on the ever-spiralling cost of passing through the West Link toll bridge.
