We’ll send aid — but don’t come here for it

IRELAND has been second to none in terms of humanitarian aid to the Third World. However, when people flee for their lives we turn our backs.

When we heard that a Nigerian woman was to be stoned to death for adultery, we cried out in disgust.

But what would have happened if she had managed to flee to Ireland? Would we have sent her back to face a terrible death?
