Why focus only on farming subsidies?
How come so many subsidies to others are not similarly regarded, for example:
1. Special financial incentives to attract foreign investors (but possibly at odds with EU law).
2. Insulation of state companies from commercial reality the taxpayer foots the bill if they lose, even when their cosseted staff includes overpaid high-rollers like radio and TV presenters (the envy of every farmer).
3. Tax breaks too numerous to mention.
4. Luas and similar projects with no prospect of viability the list goes on.
Why pick on farm subsidies only?
What of the cold-hearted commercial decision of the super-rich club which is corporate finance to terminate sugar production here and elsewhere, ostensibly to help cane sugar producers in the Third World except that it now seems these opportunities are already gone to a few of the world's largest and richest farmers in Brazil where earnings are about €70/80 per month?
For how much longer will the deprived have to endure the hardship dictated by the cold tyranny of the super-rich? Can it end other than by bloody conflict?
