Make use of closing peat-burning stations

WITH the recent decision to close Bellacorick Station in April 2005, there is a ready-made plant and buildings suitable for conversion to incineration purposes at a relatively low cost and inconvenience to all concerned.

It would also retain employment in one of the most disadvantaged parts of the country as well as easing pressure on areas and communities where incineration operations are unwelcome. Other ESB peat-burning stations in the closure loop could also be considered.
