Band of brothers

MY wife and I are in Ireland from the United States on a business holiday.

We read with interest Victoria Ward’s article entitled ‘Lonely soldier to combat Bush visit’ (Irish Examiner, June 11) telling of a concert to take place in protest against the Iraq war and the visit of the US president to Ireland.

Christy Moore’s courage and conviction is an inspiration. This type of public forum embraces the spirit that allows democracy to flourish. In fact it is the essence of a true and healthy citizens’ government.

Therefore we are pleased to join those of similar persuasion at Vicar Street in Dublin tomorrow evening. A popular phrase in the US objecting to the Vietnam war comes to mind: “Apathy is frozen violence.” Thank you, Mr Moore and company, for the opportunity to add our voice to this critical issue.
