Where’s the cut-off point for double-taxation?

‘DOUBLE taxation’ is a shout frequently raised by various interests on different issues.

They’ve now been joined by your correspondent Marie Ahern (Irish Examiner letters, December 17) who complains that having to pay 21% VAT on each trip through the West Link toll bridge in Dublin constitutes double taxation.

Does she now wish to boycott every consumer product and service other than essential food and children’s clothing, since she would have to pay VAT “on money on which tax has already been paid,” to use her own words?
