Church should have a voice on RTÉ council

RTÉ’s audience council aims to be open, “welcoming all contact, listening to all views and responding promptly and appropriately”.

We welcome this.

Of the council’s 22 members, 11 have been nominated by public bodies, including the Irish Council of Churches. We understand that the Catholic Church was not invited to nominate a member.

We welcome the inclusion of the former but find it difficult to understand the exclusion of the latter as its members presumably represent the largest segment of RTÉ’s audience and licence fee contributors.
