Incinerators rarely meet emission limits

INDAVER’S lawyer Paul Gardiner has claimed that the proposed toxic waste incinerator would have “no adverse health impact,” provided EU directives on emission standards are met.

Incinerators rarely meet emission limits

The problem is that they are rarely met and almost every incinerator routinely infringes these standards.

Indaver’s own plant at Antwerp in 2002 emitted dioxin at a level over 1,800 times the legally permitted limit.

Indaver has also noted that incinerators account for only a small proportion of Ireland’s dioxin levels.

May I suggest this is because commercial incineration companies like Indaver do not operate here.

I understand that the figure for Belgium, home of Indaver, is approximately 69%. Incinerators also produce hundreds of other compounds, many of which are known to be toxic.
