Pedestrians alarm visiting motorist

WE have just returned to Australia from a visit to our native east Cork. As usual, it was most enjoyable. The warmth and friendship of the locals made the trip worthwhile – and, of course, the great weather helped.

Pedestrians alarm visiting motorist

I found motorists very friendly, unlike other countries where speed seems to be mandatory, but one activity has me very puzzled: the rules of the pedestrians. They just walk across busy streets with no regard for the motorist who has no option but to stop.

The buggy with the baby seems a common tool used as a traffic stopper. If a pedestrian did that here in Sydney, the paramedics would have to use a helicopter to locate the body parts.

Pedestrian crossings seem the most unused part of a street in Ireland.

I would like to know what makes them think they are immune to getting clobbered by a moving vehicle. Is there a special saint I have to pray to?
