Good riddance to a political gravy-train

DOESN’T your heart bleed for those poor TDs and councillors who are going to lose their dual mandate on hospital boards.

Good riddance, I say.

For years these people have used this loophole as a lucrative gravy-train.

Instead let’s bring on to these boards the man in the street who walks the walk. These cocktail clubs have been abused as convalescent homes for inarticulate Government messenger boys.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of a good clear-out of costly sub-committees. The Government risks being completely humiliated in the upcoming local elections.

More positive decisions like this are vital if they are to retain any thread of credibility.
