I LIVE in the Bantry area and have observed an increase in the number of fires being lit in the corners of gardens, on waste ground and in homes.

Black mark against cost of refuse disposal

All emit that toxic smell indicating a variety of poisons. I try to buy goods with minimal packaging, but some necessities only come in plastic, so I end up having to burn it to save money.

Recently, with a friend, I passed by a school where the rubbish is emptied into bins. I was told by my friend that a lot of the rubbish there is now burned to save disposal costs. I saw the evidence in an area where smokers go for their 'fix' a huge black mark, surrounded by cans and bottles.
