Right way to deal with false charges of abuse
I also welcome LOVE’s intention to widen its focus beyond the cases of religious, or former religious, who have been falsely accused of child abuse.
If we, as a society, deny the reality of false allegations we are passively encouraging them. This is no more enlightened an approach than to deny the reality of child abuse itself.
False allegations of child abuse are not always prompted by malicious or mercenary motives.
While it is clear that every allegation must be investigated there is growing concern among many working in the field at some of the methods of investigation. It has even been suggested that some of these methods can damage the very children they seek to protect.
LOVE could provide a platform where these perceived failings could be exposed to public scrutiny.
