Punchestown could never match this

JUST a warning in case you missed Fergus Finlay’s nauseating revelation in his column headlined ‘Government continues scandalous handouts to dog and horse industries’ (Irish Examiner, October 12), or you hadn’t the patience to wade through the figures.

Those of you in need of medical services, carer’s allowance, disability benefits, school buildings, etc, should note that this Government, over eight years beginning in 2001, will give €235 million of taxpayers’ money to the racing industry. In this context, the Punchestown centre, at €14 million, is a mere stable.
