We should boycott Miss World

Inevitably, Miss Ireland’s participation in the event alongside beauty queens from 80 countries will send out the wrong message regarding this country’s attitude towards cruel and blatantly sexist behaviour.

For the organisers to claim the event is removed from the political arena flies in the face of reality. That the contest is currently being staged in Nigeria is tantamount to a full endorsement of the unacceptable treatment of women in the name of so-called culture and religion.
