Fianna Fáil has suggested it could overtake Fine Gael’s level of support in the closing days of the election campaign but has dismissed the possibility of a rotating Taoiseach.

The party has also vowed to automatically enrol workers into paying pension contributions, if returned to government, but to stop any future raids on pension savings.

Launching the party’s pensions plans yesterday, finance spokesman Michael McGrath said: “We’re certainly not ruling out the possibility of Fianna Fáil catching Fine Gael. It’s clearly a big ask, we’re the underdogs in this campaign, but momentum is with us and we believe that we are making significant traction on the ground in bringing our message to the people… we believe we can certainly make further inroads and gains in the coming days.”
