Universal health insurance in need of reform before it begins

Despite being a key tenet of the programme for government, there is still no sign of universal health insurance, writes Brian Turner

Health Minister Leo Varadkar has gone cold on plans for universal health insurance (UHI).

This by no means brings to an end the Government’s health reforms, but it does represent a significant — and, in my view, welcome — shift in its position on how to fund the health system.
