IN THE recent legal wrangle over the meaning of motherhood in the context of surrogacy that has been before the Supreme Court, both sides, despite their deep differences, agree on one thing.

As senior counsel Michael McDowell neatly summed it up when outlining the State’s position: science has changed but the law has not.
