The minute our Taoiseach wakes up in Washington on Wednesday, he will want to look at the Irish Examiner. And sure why wouldn’t he — great Cork taoisigh before him swore by this newspaper (even if they sometimes swore at it).

I hope what he sees emblazoned from the paper, or at least from the top of this column, is good luck, Taoiseach. He’s entering the lion’s den — or more likely the snake pit — in the course of the day, and he probably needs to know there are no expectations.
