Is Brexit bad for wildlife?

WORD from some environmentalists in Britain is that they’re worried about the impact on nature if the UK pulls out of the EU.
Is Brexit bad for wildlife?

Just like here, Britain is largely ruled by the EU in relation to environmental law. And, also like here, nature-lovers over there seem to have more confidence in Brussels than in their own legislators when it comes to protecting the environment. Which prompts the question: Would we have any of the natural environment left in Ireland at this stage if we hadn’t so many decades of EU oversight?

The charity Buglife believes a Brexit would pose a significant risk to wildlife conservation and says all sorts of creepy-crawlies — bees, butterflies, ants, beetles, and others — would be better served by remaining in the EU.
