Government’s handling of water charges left many with a bitter taste
Water has to be paid for either publicly or privately but the introduction of charges has been a total shambles from beginning to end and has done so much damage to the govenment’s reputation.
As an example I was entitled on paper to receive the 2015 Water Conservation Grant of €100 but I never received the application form which was sent me nor was the grant sent.
Why was the grant not sent automatically?
It is this sort of niggling bureaucracy that so annoys both the protesters and the law abiding taxpayers and brings the Department of Social Protection into disrepute.
The Department may have saved a few paltry euros from this careless and lazy slight of hand but was it worth it?
