We can’t afford to play the old election games

Its game on with the general election just weeks away,
We can’t afford to play the old election games

It seems that all parties, whether in government or not are making promises that simply can not be kept given the rapidly deteriorating economic situation globally,

Collapsing oil prices for whatever reason are beginning to result in massive lay offs in Canada not seen since the early eighties, the same can be said for mining and similar job losses in Australia, this is now affecting certain banks who are heavily invested in those sectors,

Lack of demand in China will accelerate the negative momentum further, shipping is in freefall with bankruptcies galore.

This will affect every country on the planet as if we did not have enough on our plate already, every asset class from property to shares are overvalued globally and the smart money knows it to be so,

Therefore the much spoken about ‘rainy day’ is almost upon us. Is the next government ready for our returning children, the tens of thousands of Irish men and women who should never have left in the first instance? They can’t afford the false promises of any party manifesto.

We have an opportunity to switch our priorities to proper infrastructural investment instead of wasteful promises.

All parties need to urgently reframe their manifestos or 2016 will come to pass as the year the revolution finally died.
