We are far too lenient with habitual criminals

The spate of rural crime still continues. It has even been reported that some of these gangs may be using drones to check out farmhouses for future robbing.

We are far too lenient with habitual criminals

Minister Frances Fitzgerald has proposed supplying the gardaí with 75 high-speed interceptor patrol cars to tackle rural crime. But what use is this if when these criminals are arrested and brought before the courts they are released on bail by our judges, despite having numerous previous convictions?

One judge suggested that a reason for such leniency is that the prisons are already overcrowded.

I see no reason why habitual criminals cannot be crowded into cells.

The primary reason for jail sentence should be for the protection of our citizens, not to provide comfortable accommodation for habitual criminals.

Many of our hotels are wont to charge a single supplement for such a luxury as a single room.
