He was so effective at the Kilmichael Battle on November 28, 1920, that the British set out to ambush his Flying Column.

The British sent 1,200 battle-hardened soldiers to eliminate Barry and his men — all volunteers — who numbered 104 officers and men. There were 12 British to every Irish. The Irish won.

It is the greatest act of leadership you will ever hear or read of. 39 British soldiers were killed and 47 wounded. Three Irish volunteers lost their lives.
