We need to question people who want Sinn Fein in Government

The most important issue facing the State is not housing policy. It is the threat to democracy from a political party that appears hellbent on installing a totalitarian system of government not dissimilar to mafia states in the eastern EU.

The IRA have been allowed to get away with criminality under the noses of the police on both sides of the border.

If there are people who think it is normal to vote for Sinn Fein, regardless of how unimpressive the alternatives may be, then the rest of us have a duty to hold them to account for the consequences of such delusions.

Enda Kenny doesn’t do detail, but that is what is required to make the peace process work. It means an Irish Taoiseach with the guts to take the ‘peace walls’ down, to paint over murals, to remove segregated education and to ensure that the funding received by political parties in the North is publicly accounted for. It means an Irish Taoiseach with the guts to call a halt to the veneration of the nationalist community. They are no better than any other community and should have no right to special treatment.

Then again, our political class looks away from anything that might require tackling the endemic cronyism of the professional and business classes who fund the political process. So should it come as a surprise that our political class, led by a man like Mr Kenny, lacks the skill to face down people like Mr Adams and Mr McGuinness, among others?
