President Assad must be part of the Syrian solution
He is no worse than other despots of the East. He has never threatened the West, sent out saboteurs or assassins. The Christians support him, as do other minority groups, and to date his army is the only relatively effective opposition to ISIS. If he should be toppled then total chaos, as in Libya, would follow. The US has provided security for the West and civilised nations but its citizens are tired of perpetual war.
The Middle East must be pacified at all costs. Only agreement with Russia will permit people to rebuild their fractured lives.
