Our ailing economy can’t afford migrants

We are spending €41 million every year on foreign aid and millions more through NGOs. Then several more millions are spent on direct provision. This despite the fact that we are a poor people owing billions and billions of euro.

Our ailing economy can’t afford migrants

Yet a number of people with good incomes, including a number of politicians have suggested that we also take in a few thousand migrants from Syria. Are they for real?

Do they not realise how desperate thousands of Irish peoples lives are. Unemployment is at 9.6%. Thousands are in involuntary exile. Thousands of those working still struggle to make ends meet.

Not alone should we refuse to take in any of those migrants but the system should be reformed so that each application is expedited and the applicant should not have free legal aid in opposing deportation.
