I do however believe Dara Murphy has a right to appoint drivers of his choice (see Irish Examiner, August 20).

His duties and responsibilities require considerable travel. It is appropriate he has a driver with whom he is “comfortable”. Should that driver be capable of engaging in political discussions all the better for the minister.
