There’s oil in them there fields, yet we still import

Referring to oil exploration off the south-east coast, the following are quotations from articles published in the recent past:

There’s oil in them there fields, yet we still import

“Deep Kinsale could contain 2.3bn barrels of oil. Fastnet Oil says independent assessment established presence of significant potential”.

Also “Shares in Providence up 10% on Barryroe discussions. Surveys conducted on Barryroe, in 2012, indicated the field could yield 778m barrels of oil”.

Are we missing something here?

The Government is still importing oil at prices beyond our control.

Perhaps they would care to comment!
