It was odious to threaten ‘Tel Aviv feis’

The cancellation of ‘the 1st Tel Aviv Feis’, by the Carey Academy, after “threatening messages were sent to not only our teachers, but also parents and students”, by members of the Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, is, if true, disgraceful (Irish Examiner, July 8).

It was odious to threaten ‘Tel Aviv feis’

This organisation has been accused before of intimidating academics, musicians and artists who dare to interact with their Israeli counterparts (this includes Israel-Arab cultural institutions).

Moreover, IPSC chairman Martin O’Quigley’s claim in your newspaper that the”Palestinian people can’t experience their culture in their capital [Jerusalem]” is not true.

There always has been a strong cross-fertilisation between Arab and Jewish citizens in Israel, which manifests in cultural diversity.

If the IPSC movement has any scruples, it will denounce this sinister behaviour towards the Carey Academy.
