Ban Ki-Moon wrong choice for peace prize

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is the wrong choice for the Tipperary International Peace Prize for several reasons:

Ban Ki-Moon wrong choice for peace prize

1. The Syrian War, the resolution of which has been prevented by veto powers at the UN. The secretary general failed to confront Russia, China, the US, Arab Nations, and others for abandoning Syria.

2. The military coup, unfettered brutality, and absolute persecution by Egypt’s new dictator, President El Sisi. Thousands have been murdered and tens of thousands imprisoned.

3. The 51-day bombardment of Gaza by Israel and deaths and deprivation inflicted upon the whole population, for which the secretary general was slow to respond, guarded in his condemnations, and quick to forget.

4. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The secretary general has taken minimal action to bring an end to the war.

5. The UN-triggered and illegitimate Saudi war against Yemen to dictate who may govern this sovereign nation. The secretary general failed to remove his envoy for biased interference in place of conflict mediation.

6. The spread of violent jihadi groups all across Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere. The secretary general failed to convene gatherings of nations, heads of state, or religious leaders to deal with this scourge.

It is not expected that one man can resolve all conflicts in the world. But, leadership by the secretary general is needed to speak the truth, to oppose the abuse of power and people, and to intervene before small problems become insurmountable chaos.
