In recent days I answered the door bell to one of our TDs

Politicians won’t make themselves accountable to voters

I wanted to take the opportunity to discuss what I see as a lack of democracy in our political/electoral system. I made the point that once elected, party members become subject to the party system thereby ignoring promises made to voters.

In addition there is no procedure whereby TDs can be held accountable to the voters between elections. The answer I got was “this is the system we have”.
