From ‘mortal’ souls to Fifty Grades of Hay

Richard Fitzpatrick’s [irish Examiner, Books 21/2/15] review of David Lodge was a farcical example. While condescending to Lodge’s Catholicism, Fitzpatrick located the Christian Brothers in Lodge’s De La Salle school and ascribed his “Catholic hang-ups” to fears of losing his “mortal” soul.

On the plus side, I eagerly look forward to next Saturday’s review of the new agricultural blockbuster everybody is talking about — Fifty Grades of Hay.
