Live your life, but make that bucket list first

Recently, we heard about the tragic death of Peaches Geldof.

Live your life, but make that bucket list first

She was just 25 years old and it made me realise that we should live life to the full.

For me, it was Bob Geldof’s statement that made it so heart breaking, when he said: “How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable?”

Peaches’ death sparked a massive flood of emotional tributes and throughout it all, I kept thinking about the one truth: we have no idea when our time is up; nobody can predict when the end is near.

Recently, I saw a picture on Twitter of four cartoon men. They all had said goodbye to each other. They were all pictured about to walk into various things, one into a car, one down a manhole, the other walking into a lamp-post, and finally, the last one was about to walk into a tree.

Above this picture was the caption, ‘Nobody knows when the last good-bye is’.

Moral of that picture is, that we should all live our lives.

Take a tragic story like a patient being diagnosed as terminally-ill.

Yes, they get their prognosis, but realistically, how do they know how accurate it is? When doctors say ‘This is your last Christmas’, do they really know that?

There are so many anecdotes of people far outliving the length of time predicted for them.

People obviously have different beliefs as to who has the final say, some say God, some say fate, and some just leave it in the hands of another force.

I think the people of Ireland should start living their lives, do whatever they want to do.

I know it’s super weird and slightly morbid, but I think everyone should have a bucket list.

It could be something dramatic like skydiving or something more personal like meeting Daniel O’Donnell. It doesn’t matter, just try and write down something you would love to do for the future, so when you’re falling off your perch you can fall off, knowing you’ve done that one thing you always wanted to do.

It’s time we forgot about what people think, forgot about being judged, and just did what makes us happy.

As author C Joybell said: “A lifetime isn’t forever, so take the first chance, don’t wait for the second one! Because sometimes, there aren’t second chances! And if it turns out to be a mistake? So what! This is life! A whole bunch of mistakes! But if you never get a second chance at something you didn’t take a first chance at, now that’s true failure.”
