Standard practice to report abuse allegations

In your Letters to the Editor section (March 14) a Fr. Thomas O’Flynn, in writing about the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church, claimed “there are other uninvestigated clerical scandals with adolescents that occurred at other locations around the country.”

Standard practice to report abuse allegations

Fr. O’ Flynn is a priest of the Dominican Order and does not hold an appointment in the Archdiocese of Dublin.

Notwithstanding, I have written to Fr. O’Flynn and the designated officer of the Dominican Order, reminding him of his obligations under the State guidelines “Children First” and under Church guidelines, drawn up by Mr Ian Elliot, to report any information he may have of allegations of criminal behaviour to the gardaí, the HSE and Church authorities.
