Finlay is missing the big picture in rural towns

While I agree with some of Fergus Finlay’s points in his article “Villages and towns outside the Pale will die without urgent action” (Opinion, February 4) I take exception to his opinions on a one-off visit to Ballydehob, Glandore, Schull and Castletownshend on a cold February last weekend.

All of these communities have extremely hard-working, hospitable, and friendly people who enjoy the fruits of their labours during their high summer season. But not only then, they enjoy their weekend visits from people similar to me during the dark and bleak weekends of the “off” season.

I suggest Mr Finlay visits West Cork more regularly before he commits himself to, in my opinion, a totally misinformed overview.
