Gravy trains must stop
I speak of the multiplicity of committees, boards, panels etc, by which the piglets are allowed their turn at the trough. The normal response of our political masters on this subject is to cite public service, but one wonders how much service is actually rendered by many of those involved.
If this Government is serious about reform, it must investigate the effectiveness of these bodies. It must also ensure that when a body is found to be essential, it functions in the most economic manner possible. If politicians are serious about restoring public confidence, they have to remove the gravy trains from the track.
