Our borders too fluid?

The headline statistics on page one (Irish Examiner, Dec 14) presented a stark synopsis of Ireland’s ‘crash’ and bailout, from 2007-13: 428,000 people emigrated and 391,000 are unemployed, an increase of 220,000.

Our borders too fluid?

One other statistic, if included, would have been an illuminating complement — 390,000 immigrated into Ireland (source CSO Apr’07 — Apr’13). Apart from confirming that there has been major population replacement, it is pertinent that the figure equates to the unemployed. It’s like filling a bucket with a hole in it, except no one will admit to the defective system created by the eradication of national borders.
