A lovely dream of owning our own oil

I had a dream last night. It was a dream in which Michael O’Leary was minister for energy and was thrashing out an agreement with the oil and gas exploration companies.

A lovely dream of owning our own oil

An agreement in which royalties would be applied to oil and gas upon extraction and the Irish nation retaining 40% ownership and control of our own oil and gas to make Ireland independent of the international energy markets and secure our energy requirements for the foreseeable future, with the balance of our share going for export which would help redress the hardship caused by these years of austerity measures, and the exploration companies then paying a fair tax on the profits from their 60% share of our resources.

Unfortunately, that pleasant dream ended when I awoke to the nightmarish reality that our government had handed ownership of our oil and gas to those oil exploration companies and that it was not possible now to instruct those companies which have discovered Irish oil to get a move on and start pumping.
