No evidence of crime

In the aftermath of the recent controversy regarding the taking into care of the Roma children, inquiries are underway and many searching questions are being asked, and will continue to be asked.

But there is one important question that has not been asked so far in this controversy.

Why did some media organisations, (RTÉ, for example), send their crime correspondents to cover the story, when there wasn’t evidence of a crime having taken place?

Granted, the gardaí were involved, but they are involved in many types of incidents, eg road accidents, and crime correspondents are not sent to cover those.

Furthermore, why did RTÉ, and other media organisations, continue to treat this event as ‘criminal’, even after it was conclusively proven that no crime had taken place?

The Gardaí and the HSE are examining their role in this event, as is the Ombudsman for Children, but these media organisations have questions to answer as well.
