Time we woke up

If the Irish voters are so naive to vote to retain the Seanad, then we must stop complaining about poor government.

We don’t need 220 members in Leinster House to govern this small country, who are among the best paid parliamentarians in Europe, with very many family members also enjoying a nice salary at taxpayers’ expense.

The Seanad has been a handy source of income for many rejected TDs over the years, some of whom use it to regain their seats, often at a colleague’s expense.
