Point-scoring for Cork

Reading reports on this year’s drawn All-Ireland hurling final and listening to people talking about the performance of our team, the general consensus seems to conclude that Cork were inferior to Clare. People, pundits and indeed hurling fans, seem to think that Cork got the ‘out of jail card’.

Point-scoring for Cork

As an avid fan and supporter of the Cork hurlers, whom I expect to win every time they play, I have to take umbrage with the above sentiment. I’d like to ask the following questions to your readers and Cork fans. Why, with all their dominance in the first half, were Clare only two points ahead at half time? Why did Clare lose a five point lead, not once, but twice, during the match if they were so dominant? Why did Clare require a fluky point to force a draw with Cork, considering all their dominance? How come the Cork forward line playing badly could score two excellent goals? While, I acknowledge that quite a lot of our hurlers did not play to their full potential in this game and played second fiddle to the Claremen for most of the game, they still almost stole the game in true Cork fashion. I, for one, am proud of them and expect better the next day out. Corcaigh Abú!
