Absence of multiculturalism during visit

Having read Tom Cooper and Peter Rogers in your letter pages, my memories have gone back to Sept 1969.

Absence of multiculturalism during visit

Accompanied by four Corkonians (three cousins and a friend) we entered a public house in a lovely little village in Co Armagh. The woman behind the bar served us our drink and as she did so stated that we were Fenians as one of the lads was wearing a Pioneer pin. I wonder in today’s multicultural Ireland how would she feel if one or the other of us was wearing traditional Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, or other distinguishing emblems?
