We will be forever in the grip of witless narcissists

Many thanks to Michael Clifford and Shaun Connolly (Forum, Aug 3) for their acerbic and timely reminder of the level of self-serving and deluded guff we have to put up with from our esteemed leaders.

However, while we nod in agreement with the sentiment of the columnists, we need to ask ourselves why we continue to elect these inept narcissists.

For repeated generations we have continued to elect governments dominated by parochial politicians with limited vision, whose only skill is the ability to repeat cliched witless rhetoric and avoid upsetting the elite. I don’t see any evidence that this situation will change in the near future, judging by recent polls.
