Cork Airport open to transatlantic carriers

Cork was not included in bi-lateral agreements between Ireland and the US, so it is only since the EU–US Open Skies.

Cork Airport open to transatlantic carriers

Agreement, which allows any airline of the European Union and any airline of the United States to fly between any point in the European Union and any point in the United States, that direct transatlantic flights from Cork Airport have been feasible.

Cork is competing against every other destination in the EU that desires direct transatlantic flights, many of whom are significantly larger metropolitan areas. We have made the strongest business case to prospective transatlantic carriers, but to date no airline made the commercial decision to launch such a service from Cork. New-route discounts and marketing support are available at Cork Airport to any airline that will provide such a service.

While Cork Airport is State-owned, it operates under DAA ownership as a commercial, semi-state company and receives no State monies to finance its operation or capital investment programme.

Cork Airport is engaged with stakeholders in the greater Cork City region to make the strongest business case for a direct transatlantic service, and community support for this has been pledged, and we continue to engage with prospective airlines that have the capability of operating from Cork to the east coast of the USA.
