Boycott fairness queried

Daniel Teegan (Letters, Apr 16) is entitled to his opinion that the decision of a few hundred TUI delegates to boycott Israel is courageous.

Boycott fairness queried

But why is the union boycotting the only stable democracy in the Middle East while ignoring the academic links that its members have with, for example, the despotic and medieval kingdom of Saudi Arabia? Is that courageous or hypocritical?

To what extent does the anti-Israel boycott decision reflect the views of all its members? We’re told that there were 400 delegates at the conference — this is less than 3% of the TUI membership of nearly 15,000, which I think raises questions as to how representative of the entire membership the vote was.
