TV licence law violates right to be educated
Unfortunately Matt, like all media people, is myopic when it comes to the principle of free speech and the TV licence.
They fail to see that TV like ‘De Paper’ gives us a window on the world, and restricting the right to own a TV is censorship and a human rights issue. We also have a right to be educated by the organs of public opinion and TV licence law violates this right. Free speech should be a core value for media people so are Matt and his media colleagues copying Rome and practising mental reservation when it comes to free speech and TV licence? My solution would be to finance RTÉ performing groups out of the Lotto and allow all or part of RTÉ output to be pay-per-view.
